Three members of Rhyl Dolphins Swimming Club have been shortlisted for awards at the forthcoming Denbighshire Sporting Achievements Evening.
They are – Sean McCue in the Volunteer category, Rowena Thomas Breese in the Disability category and Iris Thomas in the Unsung Hero category.
Sean, nominated in the Volunteer category, is somewhat younger than the average age of volunteer in most sports clubs and it is to be hoped that his nomination will encourage other young people to take an active role in the running of clubs. Sean not only does the administrative work for the Rhyl club but his nomination is also in recognition of his wider contribution to swimming in North Wales through his IT work.
Iris is very much a ‘ backroom’ worker but carries out tasks which are essential to the running of any club. Most of this work is not seen but would become very evident if not done. She has carried out this work, in her own inimitable style, over many, many years!
Rowena continues to be an inspiration to all who come into contact with her. In spite of battling for over 35 years with a number of health problems, she trains hard in the pool and continues to be a member of the British Transplant Team, winning many medals for Great Britain in championships all over the world.
The best of luck to all three!
